April Reading Wrap Up
Another month of great reading! According to my Fable “my imagination roams freely through all the epic stories on my bookshelf!”
I was able to conquer FIVE audiobooks this month?! My attention span is amazed. It’s so different hearing a book narrated & never in a million years did I think I’d enjoy it so much. It also looks like it was also a Noah’s ark month because I had four pairs of books, either duologies or part of a series.
Now to analyze the diversity of my books: 14 out of 16 books featured female identifying protagonists, ranging in ages 16-late forties. 4 out of those 14 books featured protagonists of color, and only one book had a cast predominantly made of people of color. Only 2 books featured an LGBTQIA+ couple & neither were the main couple of the story. Out of the 12 authors I read, 9 are white, 2 are men, and 3 are women of color. Mostly an increase from last month but not nearly where I should be.
My favorite read: Canticle by Janet Rich Edwards. I have been on a personalized journey with God this year, redetermining my relationship with Him. Aleys’s similar journey made me feel seen & reminded me the real importance of being faithful is trusting in God. This was a library book but I need to purchase it so I can annotate the life out of it!
My worst read: Requiem by Lauren Oliver: I blew through this audiobook because the second one (Pandemonium) was incredible … the ending just fell flat. All this buildup for a stagnant ending? I thought something was wrong with Libby but it turned out the book was OVER?
QUOTE OF THE MONTH: “I want to be the beginning... The source... of harmony. Of joy. Of life.” From Island Fruit Remedy by Rich Shapero.
I’m hopeful for May. I’m at 58 books for the year as of this posting & would love to make it to 100 by the end of June. There are lots of book 2’s on hold for me at the library & some downtime in between gigs that I can’t wait to spend reading! Did you read anything I read this month? Any recommendations? Ideas for blog posts? Please leave them in my contact page! Happy reading!
